CTC+Americana: A Conservatory Satellite is an innovative, hands-on theatre education pilot project that brings Commonwealth Theatre Center’s world-class Walden Theatre Conservatory programs to 200 young people in South Louisville at Americana World Community Center. Young people ages 6-12 from a wide range of backgrounds will participate in this year-round project, including immigrant and refugee youth already served by Americana’s empowering programs plus students from surrounding South Louisville neighborhoods.
Building from introductory workshops where kids actively learn the basics of theatre, programs advance to fun, intensive fall and spring weekly classes—the same ones offered in the Conservatory at CTC’s bursting-at-the-seams Payne Street facility—where students find their voices and practice making their own artistic choices.
This satellite program blends the strengths of both organizations to widen and deepen access to the arts for young people. With it, Americana expands the range of programs offered for their immigrant/refugee and underserved communities, and CTC overcomes space limitations and transportation challenges to bring acclaimed performing arts programs to more students.
CTC and Americana are together raising $14,163.50 in support of this pilot satellite project, and the organizations intend for this satellite to become a sustainable, thriving part of South Louisville for years to come.
